La Peque Tejidos. (La Peque Crochet Work) It’s my brand. My name is Claudia Serván Ortiz; I was born in Chachapoyas, in the Amazonas region, and I am the second of two sisters raised by my mother. I am also the niece of Luis Ortiz Perea, my mother’s brother, one of the nine students of the University of La Cantuta murdered in 1992.

I hold a degree in Tourism from the National University of Education, and I founded La Peque Tejidos in 2018 as a space to share my art—the crochet work I learned from my maternal family, which is an ancestral heritage that brings family together and strengthens family bonds.

I work with cotton and other high-quality materials. I create pins, brooches, keychains, bookmarks, and other items inspired by what surrounds me, my ideals, and my culture. I share and teach what I know—my family history—and also the value of crocheted work as a form of labor done with dedication and love.

SARHUA - AYACUCHO

Julián Ramos Alfaro & Familia es un artista pionero de Sarhua, Ayacucho, lleva más de 40 años promoviendo el Arte Tradicional de Sarhua en Lima junto con su familia. Reconocido por su talento, fue galardonado con la Medalla Joaquín López Antay 2024 y ha presentado sus obras a nivel nacional e internacional.

Con una vasta experiencia en la enseñanza, Julián continúa su legado junto a su familia trabajando en su taller familiar en Chorrillos, donde siguen creando las emblemáticas Tablas de Sarhua.

Formó parte de los autores de la serie PIRAQ CAUSA (¿QUIÉN ES EL CULPABLE?) donde artistas tradicionales de Sarhua pintaron un aproximado de 12 piezas donde se narraba lo vivido en el periodo de violencia política.

OCROS - HUAMANGA - AYACUCHO

Waytari Sunquy. My name is Isabel Alacote Vilcatoma; I was born in Cceraocro, Ocros District, Huamanga Province, Ayacucho Region. I am the seventh daughter of Emilio Alacote and Cecilia Vilcatoma, who were killed in 1984 by Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) during the period of political violence (1980–2000). As a result of that event, we relocated to Lima, and since then, we have lived in Huaycán, a district of Ate.

I am married and have a daughter. I create my crafts using the arpillería (arpillera textile appliqué technique), making coin purses, bags, cell-phone pouches, and cuadros de memoria (memory panels) where we share our history, customs, as well as the fauna and flora of our country.

I am a member of an association of people affected by and victims of political violence, and I currently serve as the president of the Asociación Mama Quilla de Huaycán (Mama Quilla Association of Huaycán).

LIMA

Qantuchik. Nuestra Cantuta (Our Cantuta) is the brand of Gisela Ortiz, a relative in the Caso La Cantuta (La Cantuta case) and sister of Luis Enrique, from the Universidad Nacional de Educación (National University of Education), who in 1992 was abducted, disappeared, and killed. She is a professional in business administration and a human rights activist.

Weaving is a reconnection with our maternal and paternal roots, with our land, and with the tradition of sitting on the patio bench—grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, and nieces—while we weave and share life stories. It is a form of resistance in which family memories are rebuilt.

It is also a means of survival amid different crises—of work, the economy, ethics, and justice. Weaving becomes a process of healing, of conversation, of rebuilding oneself, and of reconciling with oneself; of embracing one another and recognizing ourselves as creators of hope, of life.
